The breed used is especially chosen as it is slow growing so the chickens don't get too big in the right time.
The chicks are put into insulated arcs at 1 day old, and are kept there under gas brooders, for warmth until they are about 3 weeks old. If they went outside before this, the magpies would eat them.
So at 3 weeks old they are let out and then they are big enough to freely range around the paddocks.
No artificial fertilisers, pesticides or herbicides are ever used on the land. They are fed chick crumb until they are 4 weeks old, then moved onto pellets. This is a GM free ration, with no growth promoters, hormones or antibiotics.
The chickens are only given medication if they have an injury or an illness.
